Row House TLC
Renewal and Renovation on Pomander Walk, Georgetown, Washington D.C. - Part Two!

Caroline Legarde lives in a charming, two-story brick row home on Pomander Walk in Washington DC. She's been hard at work since we first met her earlier this year. Caroline has shared the following updates with us about the progress of her renovation:

Caroline: You can see the stair supports starting to go up in this [photo]. We discovered that the structure was not very strong under the bathroom above the kitchen, nor was the staircase adequately bolstered from below. The floors [have been] sanded down [as well].

Caroline: Again, the support for the stairs is shown, now drywalled in. Also the support for the granite countertops [has been] constructed.

It's great that Caroline has taken photos from the same perspective, really demonstrating the changes that have taken place in her kitchen.

Caroline: This [photo] shows post-painting. The color I chose for the walls is Benjamin Moore's Paper White, a cream that has a hint of blue-grey, as I think it sets off the floor and beams nicely, but still allows for a nice clean feel. Also in this shot the newly stained floors are shown, stained Burnished Walnut (Sherwin Williams). I was really pleased with the way the stain turned out.
The kitchen has now been painted.

Caroline: You can see the patchwork of original woods in this photo.

Caroline: We created a nook above the sloped staircase to house a new [stackable] washer/dryer unit. The goal was to use every square inch of the house resourcefully, so this creative placement allowed us to use that previously ignored space for an appliance that no one wants to look at daily. [This photo] shows how it looks – almost completely hidden with access through a spring-loaded hidden door.
